Rob Atchison, MA, NCC, LMFT (woah that is a lot of studying/exam taking!) is the Regional Supervisor over the Indianapolis, Bloomington, Jasper and Columbus offices in Indiana. We are looking for Master’s level staff to join our teams in Indiana. Apply at http://www.youthvillages.org/jobs.
What was your educational/experience background before coming to Youth Villages?
I graduated with a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Indiana Wesleyan University in December 2009. This was my first job out of school in the counseling field, but I completed my practicum and internships working with at-risk teens in a group home and with college students in a counseling center at Indiana Wesleyan University. I also gained experience with couples with addiction issues as well as families at the graduate counseling center. I was also a Psych Tech on an inpatient unit at a psychiatric facility.
What do you love about living in your town?
Living in Indianapolis allows for easy access to a lot of amenities so any hobby you could enjoy is available. Downtown Indianapolis is a clean area and great for families as well.
What is the most challenging part of your job?
We work with the most challenging families due to a variety of factors, which can make for a stressful day for our specialists. So, in my particular role, it is always a challenge trying to ensure that specialists are getting what they need to find that personal life and professional balance. That balance is needed to ensure the families receive the care they need.
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Seeing families succeed as well as seeing staff succeed in their career goals.
